POV: How Tether Events Support Budtender Growth
Tether events are not just another industry gathering. They create space for Budtenders to be recognized, supported, and included in conversations that shape the industry. From the moment you walk in, it is clear these rooms are built with frontline retail in mind.
My first experience set that tone immediately. You may have seen me handing out gift bags at checkout last year in London, Ontario. In a short time, what I gained through these events has had a direct impact on my career. Today, I help build those same experiences for others.
My First Tether Experience
It has been nearly a year since my first Budtender sampling event in London. I went in with limited expectations. I had attended other Budtender-focused events before, but this felt different as soon as I arrived.
I picked up my ticket, signed up to volunteer, and joined Debra and Brooke from the Tether team without a clear sense of what the day would lead to. The energy in the room stood out right away. Conversations were direct and grounded in real retail experience. Budtenders were speaking openly about what works, what does not, and what it takes to build trust with customers every day.
I connected with Budtenders from other stores, met brand teams looking for honest product feedback, and spent time with peers who understand the pace and pressure of working the floor. For the first time, I felt that my perspective carried weight.
I left with samples, stickers for my junk journal, and detailed notes for my own tracking system. More importantly, I left with a stronger sense of direction. The product exposure and education mattered, but the real value came from the community in the room.
I walked away more confident in my knowledge, more connected across the industry, and more invested in where my role could take me. It reinforced why this work matters.
Growing Through the Experience
That first event was a turning point. What started as a single opportunity became a foundation for growth. I took on more responsibility in the store, moving from Keyholder to Manager, with a focus on leading teams, supporting development, and building trust on the floor.
Each step sharpened my understanding of leadership. It is not only about operations. It is about creating an environment where people feel supported, heard, and set up to succeed.
Over time, that path led me to join the Tether team. I now work behind the scenes to bring these events to life for Budtenders across the country. Being part of that process brings a different level of responsibility. The goal is to ensure every event delivers real value to the people who show up.
These events are not built around products alone. They are built around people. They create access, open dialogue, and strengthen connections between retail and brands. They also reinforce the role Budtenders play in shaping purchasing decisions and building consumer trust.
Budtenders sit at the center of this industry. The conversations you have every day influence outcomes at the shelf level and beyond. That is why these sampling events exist. To support your development, recognize your impact, and strengthen your connection to the brands and products you represent.
Your experience carries weight. Your perspective informs the market. And your role continues to drive this industry forward.
